THOUGHTS OF WARM SPRING HELP THAW WINTER BLASTS

By Susan Graham

The first of the year seems to be a nice time to start a new semester, for one wipes the slate clean at the beginning of the second half of the school year as well as at the start of another 365 days.

Yet even with this all-around fresh start, the second semester is such a difficult one. The memory of how quickly the last semester slipped by flashes through your mind. If this 18 weeks passes as quickly, you’ll soon be out of school.

The thought of the end of school for summer vacation brings a memory of warm breezes and welcome sunshine, and just the thought basking in the summer’s warmth makes you eager for the winter thaw to arrive.

Perhaps these sweet, nostalgic thoughts bring a case of premature spring fever. Its not unusual. It happens to me every time I walk down a frost-bitten street trying to warm myself with summer’s pictures. With a premature case of spring fever comes a serious lapse of good intentions for the new semester. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN!

You’re going to get spring fever this year. For few are lucky enough to escape the pleasant but disastrous grip of this once-a-year malady. If you think the first two six weeks of the spring semester are rough, wait until the final grading period slowly moves into gear. You’ll want to start vacation before the time is official. If you buckle down now, when those fresh spring sensations tickle your nostrils and ask you to come out to play, you may be able to take a little excursion or two, but you’ll have to earn your ticket to the sneak preview.

Make your grade now, so when the end is fast approaching you won’t be cooped up inside doing extra work while all the wiser fellows are out living it up.
