When you hear the word tape, what do you think of? A roll of scotch tape? Or even duct tape? Well I’m here to tell you that the TAPÉ I’m asking about isn’t a tool for help. It is a clothing brand created from four current Shortridge scholars which released on the 25th of August. Their names are Miguel Anguiano, Chin Mwaafrika, Michael Utley, and myself, Alton Parks. The four of us teamed up together as seniors to leave behind our mark as not only a clothing brand, but a lifestyle.

TAPÉ was created by Michael and myself our sophomore year as an idea, but mostly a joke. It wasn’t until our junior year when things became more realistic. We teamed up with Miguel  and Chin to further our product and make a thought into a reality. The meaning behind TAPÉ is simple. The world is in your hands, and you can do whatever you want with it.

We came up with this idea because we feel as if society takes power away from the people by creating social standards. In the fashion world, it is set to where you have to wear a certain brand to even get respect from fellow peers. Individually within our group, we have unique styles and we are defiant against the “rules” society has placed. We incorporated this in our brand by making a range of different images and concepts to support the creation we made. Most designs are abnormal but have plenty of thought behind them. The thoughts aren’t one general idea or statement created, but instead can be multiple which creates an endless amount of perspectives and views. We do this to try to get others to understand that clothes don’t define you, you define clothes.

Great Idea. The topic is very strong and interesting. I would like to know more details about how the Tape is going to work here on Short ridge. Good luck

    Alton Parks Reply:

We came up with this idea as merely a joke at first. But, We seen it was a more fitting word for our movement as our ideas for the clothing brand came along with time.
